Thrifty Thursday!!

I finally had a chance to work on that item I brought home from Goodwill last week. I have wanted a buffet for our dinning room for a while now. Finally I stumbled upon something that will work! And the price….$14.00 !!

I had the nice people at Goodwill help me get this in my car. I so badly wanted to get it in the house myself, but it was just too heavy. So that night my husband & I carried it into the dinning room.

I couldn’t decide what to color to paint it. I originally was going to paint it white (like everything I seem to paint!). But after living with it a few days, I decided to paint it black to match our dinning set.
Since there was such a thick glossy finish on this piece, I used some sandpaper we had in the garage & gave it a light sanding. Not much, just enough to take the shine off. Then it was time to paint.

After 2 coats on the drawers I moved on to paint the lower half of the cabinet. I decided not to paint the top. Our table & chairs have the dark wood finish top, while the legs are black. Its also has a distressed look . So I figured the buffet would go with the set better.

Only problem I had…..keeping the cats out of the bottom storage area! That’s a paw print right in the middle of my paint job! AHHHHHH!

work in progress....

After I let it all dry over night I decided to paint the handles black to match. I was planning on getting new ones, but for now this works. And I think I like them now. The total cost for this buffet( after paint) came just under $20. Not bad!

I went around the house & found a few baskets & bins to hold the kids craft supplies & some toys. The drawers are filled with paper, glue, markers etc. Now its all close at hand when they’re working on a their projects. Hopefully it will make it easier to clean up when they‘re done too. Oh …the messes they can make!

Lovely find, you must have a route for the stores. I used to go to them more often and refinished a ton of furniture. If it didn't look good stripped I painted it.I bought 20 chest of drawers and 15 wardrobes from a old hotel who had a bunch in storage. A few years ago I needed a few chests to store tools and wished I had kept a few of those.

That paw print is hilarious! And the buffet looks like it was always meant to go with your dining set.

Super job of upcycling. How wonderful and it looks like a million bucks. Perfect with you table. I love the idea of having the kids project baskets close at hand....makes life so much easier. We did that in the breakfast nook and life runs so much smoother...yay, I vote for easier, smoother with kids. The Olde Bagg

Awesome find!

I'm THISCLOSE to getting a vintage dresser off of craigslist for our dining room to act as a buffet, but it's not even close to the price you scored! So good job!
