Thrifty Thrusday....Shirt throw pillows

I’ve been having fun with the sewing machine lately. I picked up a few button down shirts for just 49 cents each. I just loved the colors and the little pattern on them. I wasn’t quite sure what I’d do with them, but I decided to make them in to sweet little pillows.

Turn the shirt inside out while buttoned. I used standard 16 X 16 pillow form for my guide. Just slip pillow inside shirt & pin around the outside edge. Since it’s a button down shirt, just unbutton to remove pillow form.

Cut off excess sleeves and material. Now sew around marked edges. Turn right side out.

Place pillow back inside & button up! Easy as that!

But you know I cant throw anything out…….here’s a fun idea for the sleeves. A wine bottle gift bag!

Turn sleeve inside out. Grab a wine bottle ( or any other tall bottle) and place inside. See how much sleeve you will need to cover the bottle. Then gather bottom with a rubber band to mark where you’ll need to sew. Sew just above the rubber band .

Trim excess & that’s it! I think this is such a cute way to give a gift of wine!

Hopefully they fill it again and pass the gift along !

I love the wine bottle idea, too! AND the pillows. You are so creative, Trisha.I have been saving a pattern for tiny easter eggs sewn with repurposed materials, but since I rather dislike sewing, I've never done it! You hang these eggs on branches in a pot of water and watch as the branches bloom! You would be GREAT at making these. I'll look for the pattern and if I can locate it, I'll email it to you and watch your blog for a miracle. :)

Brilliant idea, the pillows look lovely and I really like the idea of using the sleeves to wrap up bottles. As you said the great thing about this type of gift wrapping is that it can be reused time and time again.
